In the local rag...

We had our open day last week, to formally open our new workshop and tell important people how wonderful we are. It went well, with lots of important people there, including the Mayor and High Sheriff of Hertfordshire and some people high up in the education system. It was covered by the local paper, and you can read all about it online here.

The photo is of my boss with one of the radio controlled cars our kids made, but it is a very odd picture and he doesn't really look like that! They also got the age of the kids wrong, they are 14-16. Otherwise, it is a pretty good write up.

Apart from our open day, and the fame (infamy?) of having my name in the paper, the other big event recently was Cath and Neil's wedding this past weekend. It was fantastic! Cath got me to do our old school reading at the ceremony - I almost didn't need the words on the sheet as I heard it so many times throughout school. The ceremony was fairly brief and very moving, but not too short. At least it wasn't one of those long, boring ones! The only real downer was that James was missing. He was meant to do the other reading at the cermony, but was refused a visa at the last minute :(

The reception was at a lovely little hotel in a village called Quorn. Not sure if it has any connection to the horrible meat-substitute, but it thankfully didn't feature on the menu! The speeches were amusing but nice, with only a little fun made of the bride and groom.

After supper and speeches, everyone proceeded to get amazingly drunk and dance wildly. We also did some nasty things with the helium balloons! It turned out that everyone there was a happy drunk though, so there were none of the common wedding problems like fights, broken fittings or someone puking in the flowers. It was debauched without being embarrassing - a proper Zimbo jol!

The last of us staggered upstairs to bed around 3.15am, but we made it to breakfast at about 9am, so once we got home on Sunday it was time for an extended nap!

Cath and Neil make a really perfect couple, and I sincerely hope they are currently enjoying their honeymoon and relaxing after all the work they did organising the wedding. Apparently they did most of the place settings, place names etc. on their own with the help of their families. Incredible!

Photos will be up in our gallery soon - see the link in the sidebar for our photo album.
