Summer Holidays

Thank goodness, its holiday time at last! I have been suffering from a severe case of end-of-term-itis, made worse with all the other stuff I have been doing, including Samaritans and social stuff.

In no particular order, here is some of the stuff that has happened recently.

I have been given a bicycle! Carol (a friend from work) is heading back to New Zealand, and couldn't sell it. Her flat mates didn't want it, and she didn't want it to end up being dumped somewhere so she asked who wanted it. I have been thinking about getting a bike for a while now, so that was a happy coincidence. (though of course I will miss Carol!) The front brakes were broken, but I think I have managed to fix them, will need to road test it soon to check!

I did my first Sams shift on Saturday morning, which went pretty well, and I am doing an extra shift this Saturday since I have the time anyway I might as well do a bit extra to really get into the swing of it. I was pretty nervous to start with, but by the end I was feeling a lot more confident. I asked for a 10am Saturday shift, but they persuaded me to try the 8am shift for a while and see how it goes, as otherwise they will have to open with just one person on a Saturday, which is something they don't like to do. In the end, I just need to get up the same time I would for work, and then I have the whole afternoon, and I can wander back through town, popping into charity shops and so on that I normally don't end up going into, which is nice.

A couple of weeks ago we went to the Rhythms of the World festival, where they close off the whole of Hitchin town centre and have a number of stages. It was pretty cool, though it ended up being more of a pub crawl by the end,we did get to see a few different bands. One cool part is that all the (numerous) pubs serve drinks in plastic cups, so you can take it out with you as you wander around from stage to stage. The wandering and drinking combo means you get considerably less drunk than you would sitting and drinking, which is great. I was only marginally sozzled after about 8 pints of cider - that ammount would normally leave me unable to walk!

Other than that, life is pretty much as it always is. Applied for a train driver job, but never heard back from them. Such is life. Will spend some time these holidays looking for a new job, but I'm not holding my breath. At the moment, a counselling course looks like it is going to be the best way forward, but of course that idea could change, knowing me! I also need to try and finish my book that I started ages ago - its a kids novel. Not sure if anything will come of that, but its worth a try!

Aargh, so much I could be doing, so little inclination/energy. I seem to have the traditional start of holiday cold at the moment, so need to take it easy for a few days, though it is starting to clear up - I slept most of Sunday and read most of Monday. Ah well, at least updating this is one thing I have been meaning to do for ages!

And thats it. Cheerio all!
