Scotland Road Trip

After getting up at stupid O'clock to catch a flight to Aberdeen, Geoff met me at the airport where we picked up our rental car. We then proceeded to drive half way across Scotland to Inverness. It actually only takes a couple of hours on the highway, but we took the back roads and spent most of the day getting there. We stopped anywhere we felt like, and discovered some amazing places. We stopped a lot to take photos of scenery.

We also took some 'amusing' photos, as you do, like this one of Geoff about to pick up the sheep. There were LOTS of sheep around.

Here is a broken down old house we found, it was absolutely stunning and we took loads of photos of it!



I'm going to stop uploading photos now, as it does something horrible to firefox, but you get the general idea. Will try to upload them elsewhere at some point.

We laughed a lot and really enjoyed ourselves. By supper time, we decided that a take away was best, as I was absolutely exhausted and really just wanted to sit in a comfy chair for a while. We ordered way to much food, but it was yummy and it did lunch the next day too!

We got up early the next morning and were out the house before 9 so we could drive along the coast a little way. The sea was really wild, and the one view point we tried to get to was cut off by the sea - the road a little way up was covered in foam, and then we realised that in a dip the foam was moving on top of water. The next place we found we drove onto the pier and watched the waves crashing on the wave breaker a few metres away. At one point I had the window open when a big wave started coming towards us. I tried to get it closed, but it was electric and the wave splashed in through the top of the window! I was pretty soaked. Geoff ducked out to take a few photos, but didn't get many as the wind was pretty strong, making it impossible to hold the camera steady enough. We didn't stay there long, it was rather scary being so close to the rawness of the ocean. I doubt it would have swept the car off the pier, but it wasn't worth testing that theory!

We then headed back into Aberdeen and did a very high speed tour of a park and Old Aberdeen. The park had a large glass house garden, with various sections such as the desert and tropical rooms. There was also a Japanese garden and a 'Victorian corridor' which smelled incredible. Old Aberdeen is ancient, one of the oldest universities in the country which is still used today. It would take most of a day to see it properly and we took a 5 minute drive past it, but enough of a taste to think I would like to see it again!

After that it was a bit of a rush back to the flat for some leftover chinese and quick packing, then out to the airport and homewards.

Going back to work on Monday was a bit of an anticlimax!
